On Monday 29 October 2018, Canary editor-in-chief Kerry-Anne Mendoza gave the inaugural Alternative Claudia Jones Memorial Lecture. This followed a period of sustained attack and smear campaigns by the establishment media that resulted in the National Union of Journalists (NUJ) National Executive Council rescinding its own Black Members’ Council invitation to Kerry-Anne to give the 2018 Claudia Jones Memorial Lecture.
