A new data-led index has revealed the UK’s safest construction companies of 2025, highlighting industry leaders prioritising worker safety, training, and compliance across the sector.

Compiled using publicly available data from the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA), and the British Safety Council, the index celebrates organisations with consistently strong health and safety records, award-winning safety cultures, and a demonstrated commitment to best practice on-site.

With thousands of construction-related injuries still occurring each year, the report underscores the importance of continued investment in worker protection, especially for those operating at height or on complex job sites.

Why Safety Standards Are Under the Spotlight in 2025

The construction industry remains one of the UK’s most hazardous sectors. According to the HSE’s 2023/24 figures, 45 fatal injuries and more than 53,000 non-fatal injuries were reported in the construction sector alone. In addition, around 69,000 workers suffered from work-related ill health.

These numbers reflect the ongoing need for robust safety policies, competent training, and investment in compliant, well-maintained equipment, especially in environments involving heavy machinery or high-risk access.

Spotlight on Safety: High-Performing Construction Companies

Firms recognised in the 2025 report have received multiple health and safety awards, such as RoSPA Gold Medals and British Safety Council International Safety Awards. These accolades highlight reduced incident rates and reflect a strong culture of proactive risk management.

Companies like BAM Nuttall, Galliford Try, and Wates Group feature prominently, having been celebrated for their rigorous safety procedures, in-house safety innovations, and ongoing staff development.

Industry Insight: Why the Right Equipment Matters

Commenting on the report, Andy Bray, Managing Director at Access Platform Sales, the UK’s largest independent supplier of new and used powered access platforms and material handling equipment, said:

“Safe, compliant and well-maintained access equipment (MEWPS) isn’t just a legal requirement, it’s a fundamental necessity of ensuring safe working within a responsible worksite, and a core responsibility within an employer’s duty of care.  Mandatory 6-monthly thorough inspections and daily checks, carried out by trained, competent machine operators, support best practice and help deliver high safety standards, ensuring lives and livelihoods are protected when working at height. Reliable, safe MEWPS don’t just improve productivity, they dramatically reduce risk and reinforce a culture of care, safe working, and professionalism on every site.”

How the Index Was Compiled

The Britain’s Safest Construction Companies 2025 index used the following criteria:

  • Award Recognition: Inclusion in the RoSPA and British Safety Council 2024 awards.
  • HSE Compliance: No recent prosecutions or enforcement notices from the HSE.
  • Training Investment: Evidence of significant investment in safety training or accreditations such as ISO 45001.
  • Public Transparency: Availability of published health and safety policies or certifications.

This approach allowed the index to highlight organisations that don’t just meet legal requirements but actively exceed them.

Raising the Bar Across the Industry

As construction activity increases across the UK, particularly in logistics infrastructure, housing, and commercial development, workplace safety remains paramount. This index aims to encourage companies of all sizes to benchmark their safety practices and prioritise a culture of prevention and accountability.

The full Britain’s Safest Construction Companies 2025 list is available upon request and will be circulated to trade press, safety regulators, and procurement professionals to help raise awareness and celebrate the companies leading by example.
