On a day which plunged the government into crisis, Jeremy Corbyn perfectly summed up its disastrous management of Brexit in just 11 words.

Falling apart at the seams

On Monday 9 July, prime minister Theresa May had to deal with the resignations of Brexit secretary David Davis and foreign secretary Boris Johnson. While she attempted to quell the growing political storm, Jeremy Corbyn landed a stinging blow.

In just 11 words, the Labour leader summed up the Conservative government’s Brexit plan by saying it:

took two years to reach and just two days to unravel

He went on to highlight the lack of authority that May has as prime minister:

How can anyone have faith in the prime minister getting a good deal with 27 European Union governments when she can’t even broker a deal within her own cabinet?

After the parliamentary exchange, Corbyn further spoke about May’s “Government in chaos”:

David Davis resigning at such a crucial time shows @Theresa_May has no authority left and is incapable of delivering Brexit.

With her Government in chaos, if she clings on, it's clear she's more interested in hanging on for her own sake than serving the people of our country.

No confidence

There’s now discussion of a looming no-confidence vote on Theresa May’s position as prime minister. But many Twitter users are already demonstrating their utter lack of belief and trust in May:

End of the line

After the resignations of Davis and Johnson, May’s position has become significantly uncertain. Her Brexit plan is in “disarray“. And with bookies slashing the odds of a general election before the end of 2018, we may see a Labour government before long.
